Q. Is spray tanning safe?

A. Yes. DHA,  the active tanning agent (in our sunless tanning products) is approved for cosmetic use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it is considered nontoxic and noncarcinogenic. When applied to the skin, DHA penetrates only the top layer of skin — it does not absorb into the body or bloodstream DHA based Sunless tanning has been recommended by the Skin Cancer Organisation and Dermatologists worldwide. Please be aware that Erythrulose is not approved by the FDA for sunless tanning which is why all our products are Erythrulose free. Also, our products are FREE from ingredients known to cause allergies and which is not considered safe such as parabens, alcohol & artificial fragrances.

Q: Does a sunless tan protect my skin from the harmful effects of UV exposure?

A: No. Our products does not contain sunscreen and does not protect against sunburn, therefore it is important to always wear sunblock when you have a sunless tan and are exposed to UV rays and make sure it offers both UVB and UVA protection . Repeated exposure of unprotected skin while sun tanning may increase the risk of skin aging, skin cancer and other harmful effects to the skin even if you do not burn.

Q. How does Spray Tanning work?

A. Spray tanning works through the use of mist, which contains DHA (DihydroxyAcetone) that is evenly sprayed over your entire body with a HVLP spray gun. DHA is a a colourless sugar which reacts with the Amino acids in the outer layers of your skin and over a period of a few hours goes brown - just the same as an apple does when you take a bite out of it! Spray tanning works similarly as that of most tanning lotions.  However, spray tanning are used to ensure that the body will be covered equally and evenly with DHA.  Plus, spray tanning only takes a single application to obtain your desired tan!

Q. What preparation do I need to carry out for my spray tan?

A. You should shower and exfoliate your skin well prior to receiving a spray tan (For best results exfoliate the skin 2-3 days consecutively prior to receiving your spray tan). Do not apply any moisturiser, deodorant or perfume before your spray tan session as these can interfere with the tanning solution on the skin. Preferably shave or wax 8 hours prior to spray tan session. Bring dark loose clothing and flip flops to wear afterwards.

Q. Will I go orange or streaky with a spray tan?

A. No.  Orangeness is the result of older tanning agents,  lower grade tanning products and can also be caused by over-spraying. A professionally applied spray tan avoids this which is why you should always let a professional apply your spray tan.

Q. Is a spray tan safe for pregnant woman?

A. If you are pregnant or you think you might be and you want to use our product, consult your physician first to get permission prior to application. In most cases Doctors approve the use of self tanning products. If you do decide to get a spray tan, please wear a paper mask or breathable foam nose filters. It is not recommended to have a spray tan (like most other Beauty treatments) during your first trimester. Changes in hormone levels may affect the outcome of a sunless tan and because a pregnant woman's hormones fluctuates quite a bit during pregnancy, in some cases (very rarely) the tan will not develop and wash off after the 8 hours developing time.

Q. How long does a spray tan last?

A. Your body constantly 'sloughs off' dead skin cells. This is why natural sun tans fade over a few days. Spray tanning only affects the outer skin layer, so again, as your skin cells are naturally shed, the spray tan will fade. Your tan should last 5-10 days, typically 7 days, but longer if you look after your skin by moisturising every day. However, we cannot offer a guarantee as everyone is different.
